Since the fall of Utatam, magic and mind have become inextricably linked in Nathmaria, for better and for worse. Discover what The Chronicler has foreseen as dark forces plan to send the world into catastrophe, again.

Birth of Legends The Nathmaria Chronicles Book One is the debut novel by Shaun K. Thornhill that charts the blood-pumping adventure of four unlikely heroes who must work together to vanquish those who may just be their undoing. A fantasy with a steampunk flair, it follows four individuals, who each has broken from his past to forge a new future. Mordic Almsford, a half elph of lesser royal lineage, cast off his birthright to pursue fame and fortune through neuromancy. The half elph Kale Barrington stole away from his past to try his hand at high class thievery. Mattatias of Contained Tiger seeks peace from his tragic early life. Kalamar Throx wants only to forget his profound failure.

As The Chronicler warns the people of the schemes of evil people, the four newfound allies must galvanize their distinct talents before sheer chaos is loosed upon their world by thwarting the power of necromancy and undermining national structure.

But who is Simon and how do his plans affect the others? Will he ally with Nigel or defeat the four heroes? Or both?

I recently read this book. I have read many fantasy novels in my life ranging from the epic fantansy of "The Lord of the Rings" trilogy written in the early 1900's to the light hearted fare of Alan Dean Foster. There are may types of fantasy novels. My personal tastes don't go to the macabre worlds and involve Vampyres and Werewolves. Although I have read some of that sub-genre. I tend to like heroes and heroines against evil forces and maniacal villians bent on taking over or destroying the world they live in. I like it set with horses and villages and pompass mayors and simple folk and royalty and the struggle to do right vs the easiness of going with the flow. I like taverns of dwarves and elves, mugs of ale, wenching and soldiers who like a good time but know when to do right and when to defend against wrong. If this is not your thing, don't read this book. Read a Harlequin romance novel or a history book or play your xbox.

This book, for me, was like eating a swiss cheese and mushroom stuffed hamburger wrapped in bacon! I saw from the cover what I was getting. Bacon and Beef. To things I like very much. Then I read the book and got the surprise of the cheese and mushrooms. It was great. if you like that sort of thing. Which I do.

Birth of Legends follows four friends through an incredible world of Kings and Paupers, Good and Evil, Heroes and Villians. Sounds like the start of another trilogy I read once involving a ring and a quest. But that's another story. These four friends are on the road for different reasons, some personal, some professional, some dellusional, and some for the good of others. They meet, they strive, they laugh, they love, they fight, and they grow a bond that is hard to break and part of their true strength. They are unique characters. They have occupations and skills that are not uncommon in this setting but they are used in uncommon ways.

I liked the allusions to the past and the elements of steampunk that enhanced the reader's view of the world. I hope that the auther brings them out more not from the Chronicler but in the actual story line as discovery. Not just for the bad guys either. "Nigel, stay away from that book."

If you're looking for a good read that is entertaining and fun then you're in the right place. Just click and order. in my opinion its worth the read and it certainly is a lot better than most others. there are going to be differring opinions of the work. Some poeple don't like some books. but I think for the most part you will like this and the others in this series when they are published. Hvae a great weekend reading this book.

Birth of Legends The Nathmaria Chronicles Book One Shaun K Thornhill 9781497336001 Books Reviews

Didn't understand it , how many of the other three review are not friends with him.
This book is an action packed, epic novel that opens a series of books about 4 friends who are on a mission to eliminate evil in the world. While reading through you feel as if you're in the middle of a home RPG game with friends late at night rolling the dice for the survival of your favorite character. The author weaves a message throughout the novel of growing spiritually, selflessness and becoming more than you are. There are multiple stories in the beginning that tie up in the end, but the ending leaves some major stories alive and the reader eagerly waiting for the second book to be released in the series. Definitely a must read for the summer!
This book is set in a fantasy world unlike any you have ever read about or even imagined could exist. It has many elements of different worlds such a magic, western and steampunk that I have never seen all together in one fantasy world. It is a very intriguing world that you find yourself wanting to learn more about. However, because it is like nothing you have read about, the beginning can be confusing. There are a lot of creatures, terms and things going on that it is hard to understand and place, because you will inevitably try to place them inside of a fantasy world you are already familiar with. The beginning is also building a back story that you may not understand the relevance to at the time. But you have to keep reading. Don't try too hard to understand it all in the beginning, just pay attention to what is happening to each character and keep reading. It will all come together and converge to give you a clear picture and understanding of what is going on. You just can't get discouraged in the beginning trying to make sense of everything. When it does converge it is a wonderful story of friendship and personal growth of a group of people in a fantasy world like no other. Just when you think you have a firm grasp of the world they are in, it takes many turns that you will not see coming and challenge your thinking. The prologue to the second book also takes a very unexpected turn and will pique your interest for where the story and people are headed in their next adventure. I am looking forward to the 2nd volume of this adventure.
It was an excellent book
Awesome read!
Only a few chapters in and WOW, i had to stop just to come tell everyone how great this is! Get your copy today, if you enjoy reading at all you wont be disappointed in this. Now if you'll excuse me, i have more reading to do.
Birth of Legends blends steampunk elements into a world that feels like an epic D&D campaign, but it also has some surprises about the past that once you start to realize, you'll want to re-read it to connect the dots! The intro and first chapter are kind of hard to get into, between the Chronicler and getting your first glimpses of all the different characters, but it comes together quickly in a tale you'll enjoy.
